Biography:

Novan, an assistant professor in the Department of Agricultural and Resource Economics, specializes in environmental economics. He joined the UC Davis faculty in 2012 after completing his Ph.D. in economics at UC San Diego.

Research interests:

Energy policy, environmental economics, exploring how policy instruments can mitigate the environmental impacts of the electricity sector.

Brief overview:

Electricity generation is a major source of a variety of pollutants. To achieve significant reductions in the level of pollution emitted, substantial changes will need to be made in the way electricity is produced and consumed. My research explores how we can induce more efficient use of the energy sources available to us.

Current projects:

  • Impact of renewable energy on electricity prices and pollution
  • Estimating the energy savings achieved by investments in energy efficiency
