Title: ASSISTANT PROFESSOR OF ENVIRONMENTAL INFORMATICS, UNIVERSITY OF CALIFORNIA, DAVIS. The Department of Land, Air and Water Resources in the College of Agricultural and Environmental Sciences, University of California, Davis, invites outstanding scholars to submit an application for Assistant Professor in Spatial and Environmental Informatics. This will be a 9-month academic year tenure track appointment. The position is in the College of Agriculture and Environmental Sciences, and there is an expectation for mission oriented research and outreach as part of the California Agricultural Experiment Station (http://www.caes.ucdavis.edu/research).
Responsibilities: The successful candidate is expected to conduct environmental research emphasizing geospatial tools and analysis, with a core expertise in understanding spatial and temporal environmental patterns and processes that relate to responses and change in the physical environment and land-use conditions. The candidate is expected to show a record of achievement in the application of integrating spatial data sources to study environmental states and processes. The successful candidate should demonstrate experience with various geospatial technologies and an interest and ability to work with emerging “big data” and new data sources like high spatial resolution remote sensing data, as well as developing and using quantitative methods to discover and integrate the new types of information from sensor webs, and other environmental databases. The position will complement existing LAWR strengths in regional climatology, hydrology, and biogeochemical processes and campus-wide excellence in ecology and environmental sciences. The candidate is expected to collaborate with environmentally relevant programs on campus and demonstrate experience and interest in working with interdisciplinary groups. The candidate is expected to maintain an active, externally-funded research program.
Qualifications: A Ph.D. in environmental science, or closely related environmental fields like soil science, hydrology, and ecology and a record of achievement in the application of spatial informatics to study ecological and environmental processes related to environmental change as evidenced by peer reviewed publications. We seek a commitment to excellence in teaching. The candidate will be required to teach an undergraduate upper-level core GIS course, an additional upper-level undergraduate GIS or remote sensing course, and a graduate level course in her/his area of expertise (average of 2.5 courses per year). Supervision of graduate students, student advising, curricular development, participation in outreach programs, and university service are expected.
Salary: Commensurate with experience within the Assistant Professor rank at the University of California.
