The position requires significant and creative contributions to research in the analysis of impacts of laws and regulations related to food, beverages and other agricultural products. The appointee should possess expertise and experience, and the ability to make important contributions to research output. The appointee will also be involved in activities that improve his or her professional competency. The candidate will contribute to legal and regulatory analysis of California and national regulations related to laws concerning food, beverages and other agriculture. The candidate will work closely with other researchers and will contribute to statistical and simulation models and development of experimental evidence. Emphasis is placed on the consumer demand side of markets and regulations affecting product prices and characteristics, and the analysis of consumer response to changes and differences in prices and product characteristics and production practices.


The position requires creative contributions to the research program of the agricultural issues center. The individual in this position will work independently as a part of teams of economists and others and use particular expertise and experience on demand side of markets and interpretation of laws and their implementation. The position requires contributions to refining project goals and potential outcomes and working with groups of students and other professionals, especially economists. The position requires considerable writing of project reports and professional article and final reports. The position requires contribution to publishing research results in peer reviewed journals books and other outlets mostly in collaboration with colleagues on the research team. The candidate will contribute as needed in preparing proposals from a variety of organizations especially state and federal agencies. The candidate will interact as needed with funding agencies. The candidate will participate in meetings of professional organization and make oral presentations related to research. Occasional service as a peer reviewer is consistent with duties of the position. The candidate will occasionally participate in service activities, such as University committee membership or public presentations.


Terminal degree in law JD, related to Social Sciences especially economics or psychology


Commensurate with experience, and on the UC scale for Assistant Project Scientist
