The UC Davis Department of Plant Sciences has an opening for a Junior Specialist for molecular genetic studies using Arabidopsis. This position will be involved in molecular genetic, molecular biological, and biochemical studies focusing on questions in the evolutionarily conserved beta-barrel protein in the chloroplast outer envelope membrane. Successful candidates will also actively participate in weekly group meetings where various activities of chloroplast-related research are discussed. General responsibilities include: reviewing journal articles relevant to the assigned project; participating in experimental designing, result analyses, and manuscript preparation; training undergraduate intern students; helping organizing the research activities of the Inoue laboratory. The ideal candidate will have strong interpersonal, communication, and decision-making skills; as well as the ability to work well independently and as part of a team.

This is a limited position (1 year with the possibility of extending longer) to begin as soon as possible. Salary: $3082/month plus benefits.

Basic Qualifications

• Bachelor degree in Biochemistry or a related field with a minimum of two-year experience in Arabidopsis molecular genetic research including identification and analyses of transgenic plants.
• Good understanding about the evolution of organelle outer membranes.
• Strong interests in/passion towards understanding of evolutionary questions.

Additional Qualifications

Must be able to communicate proficiently in English, both written and oral. Applicant must show attention to detail, be willing to maintain a flexible schedule, and able to regularly lift 40 pound weight. Good computer skills, familiarity with Microsoft Office suite, and at least a basic knowledge of statistics also required.

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience in oral and poster presentations at a conference.
• Experience in western blotting.

This is a limited position (1 year with the possibility of extending longer) to begin as soon as possible.

Term of appointment: 80% FTE

Salary: $3082/month plus benefits (pro-rated based on percentage time)
