Freshman, ANS
One class that I would recommend for first year students to take is Animal Science 1. I took the class my very first quarter at UC Davis and I had an amazing experience. If you are interested in animals at all this class if for you. I got to learn about the reproduction, biology, and agricultural systems of many different species in the normal class setting, and hands on in the weekly lab period. The weekly lab allowed me to experience everything from milking a cow and learning how cheese is produced to shucking an oyster to examine its anatomy.

The lectures for Animal Science 1 are just as much fun as the hands on labs. Professor Famula is enthusiastic about the topics covered in the class and has a great sense of humor that will keep you laughing until the end of the quarter. The course also requires two research papers for the quarter, and as a first quarter college student, this class helped me learn how find and interpret scientific journals in order to write a college level research paper.

The class as a whole was a unique and enjoyable way to ease into college level classes, and I would recommend it to any incoming freshman looking for a fun and exciting undergraduate course.
